The necromancy building had a bit of a…cheerful atmosphere surrounding it lately. Or, as cheerful as a building of the dead could be. Something about the new season was making everyone feel as if it was a new start, a glimmer of hope for something better this coming term. Though the snow on the ground still refused to melt, the wind was considerably less harsh than it was in the winter before. And so as the new season was bringing a new warmth to the air, the raven-haired professor was feeling a little less cold than usual as well. Nothing disastrous had happened all last term, and he hoped that it would stay that way for a while.
He had the tiniest hint of a smile on his face as he watched his students pile into the classroom, the new and the old. Mika allowed them to mingle among each other until the minute-hand had hit 12. “Heylo everyone, please quiet down.” He began, taking his usual spot sitting on top of his desk. “I hope you are all appreciating that winter is ending now, but also please pay attention that it will be more icy out as things begin to melt.” His legs swung a bit as he spoke, and he casually reached for his broom hat had been leaning against his desk. He held it in his lap, tracing his fingers along the metal rod.
“So….Right. Welcome to necromancy, my name is Mika. Just call me that, please.” He hopped off of the desk, crossing his right foot behind him as he held out his golden broomstick. The scarlet fire inside the lantern attached began to grow wilder, engulfing the broom in a woosh of heat and light as the professor threw it up in the air, spinning in circles as it went up. And on its descent, it changed. From a broomstick to a scythe, glowing red as its aureate blade jut out from the handle. The professor held it out to the students, red glyphs glowing beneath his feet. “By the time you are finished in my department, you will own one of these. I hope that is encouragement enough for you to succeed here.”
Because who doesn’t want a kick-ass scythe?
